What is the secret to driving high performance?
Is it pushing harder or keeping tabs on everything that’s going on?
For me it’s about care. It’s a question I’ve wrestled with throughout my journey at Blurgs. Early on, I realized that people often see performance and care as opposites, like two forces pulling in different directions. But in my experience, they’re essential to each other.
At Blurgs, we built a culture that values both: a workplace where people are supported to thrive and given the confidence to perform as equal partners. That balance has driven results and created an environment where people want to stay.
I want my team to create magic, and also be excited to do it.
In fact, since our inception, Blurgs has achieved a 0% attrition rate—something I’m deeply proud of, but also something that didn’t happen by accident.
This article is about how we struck that balance, creating a culture of performance and care that fuels creativity, loyalty, and results. From defining our cultural foundation to retaining talent through trust and growth, I’ll share how you can build something similar in your own organization.
Setting the Cultural Foundation
Creating a culture that balances performance and care starts with intentional choices and a clear foundation built around specific values, trust, and a shared vision.
At Blurgs, I wanted a culture where creativity, individuality, and trust embodied how we worked every day. I didn’t hire people who fit into a mold but looked for individuals whose unique perspectives aligned with our mission.
To make that happen, we fostered an environment where people felt trusted to take ownership and encouraged to experiment, even if it meant failing along the way.
Culture is in the small decisions I make daily. For you, it might be how you communicate, how you trust your team, and how you navigate challenges together.

At its core, culture is the foundation for everything your company will achieve.
Balancing Performance and Employee Well-Being
Building a culture is just the start. The real test is how that culture supports your team to thrive—driving performance without sacrificing care. At Blurgs, we embraced the idea that performance and well-being aren’t at odds. In fact, they amplify each other.
One of the decisions I’m proudest of was introducing unlimited leave. I wasn’t giving people an excuse to step away, rather I was showing trust. When you trust your team to manage their time, they show up more engaged, more creative, and ready to give their best.
Another key to balancing performance and care was adopting a trust-based management style. We focused on giving people ownership of their work, building confidence and also inspiring innovation.
When people know they’re trusted, they push boundaries and deliver exceptional results.
The takeaway is this: supporting well-being is a driver of performance. A team that feels cared for is more loyal, more engaged, and more willing to go the extra mile.
And in the long run, that’s what makes success sustainable.
Retaining Talent Through Trust and Growth
When people feel valued and trusted, they thrive.
For us, it starts with recognizing individuality. We don’t ask people to fit into a mold—we encourage them to bring their unique perspectives to the table. That sense of belonging proves good for morale and it’s why people choose to stick around.

We’ve also created space for creativity. Innovation is directly a part of how we work. When you trust people to solve problems their way, they not only deliver better results—they feel a deeper connection to what they’re building.
But the most important piece is growth. When you show your team that their development matters as much as the company’s, you build a foundation of loyalty. People stay when they see a future with you.
So, my advice is fancy perks or endless policies may seem nice, but it all boils down to trust, recognition, and growth. When you invest in your team, they’ll invest in you.
Building Something That Lasts
Looking back on this journey—from bootstrapping Blurgs to building a thriving culture of performance and care—one thing has become clear: success is never about the numbers. Nor is there only one way to success.
With so many people involved, multiple decisions to make, and each based on a specific value system, all these things combine to shape the foundation of everything you create.
The principles I’ve talked about have created a place where people feel seen, valued, and excited to build something meaningful.
Ending this series of articles feels like the perfect time to reflect on what I hope readers take away. My goal has always been to share what I’ve learned so far—and to inspire you on your own journey.
Because in the end, the real measure of success isn’t what you build, but how you build it. Thank you for following along, and I wish you all the best in building something that truly lasts.
